off to the beach + a happy birthday= delightful

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm jetting off to the beach this morning for the weekend with my favorite roommate, Ms. Parker. It's always a wonderful treat to spend time with her, and to spend it in our favorite place where we've had so many wonderful times together is icing on the cake - birthday cake that is - it's her 27th birthday today!!

Happy Birthday Jo Jo - you are a one in a million and the best friend that a girl could ask for! You never cease to be a shining light to all of us who are blessed to have you in our lives- thank you!! I hope it's another spectacular year - you deserve nothing less!!

gone to ny in my mind

I'm off to the beach in Amagansett, NY for the holiday weekend tomorrow, and I have a feeling I won't sleep tonight I'm so giddy. I've not made it to the beach at all this summer due to the move, new job & lots in between, but rest assured I am going to take full advantage of the great weather and quite time with dear friends. Plus - the sights and beauty of NY beaches, the cool breezes, lush green lawns and lovely wide beaches don't hurt either. Please excuse me while I day dream today...

What are your plans for the holiday weekend?

I'm still at the lake in my mind - oh and pretending that my phone doesn't work - is that possible? haha... Here are some of my favorite images from the weekend of fun and relaxation. What has been your favorite vacay of the summer?

missin' the weekend

This weekend, while we were at the lake in Pennsylvania, we didn't have cell service, internet, tv- nada. It was pure bliss. And of course we all wanted to prolong returning to the real world, so we didn't arrive home until after 9 PM last night. After unpacking everything, starting laundry and picking up Jack from his my fave in-laws house, my blog posts for this week didn't get completed. I hope you'll forgive me.

I did want to share a sneak peak at photos from this weekend - it was such a beautiful place and fall has already begun there (see!). I hope you have a terrific Monday - see you tomorrow!

to the lake they said

We are off to the lake this weekend with our dear friends for some unplugged fun - no cells, no ac, s'mores & hot dogs, bathing suits all day, boats and pure uninterrupted relaxation. Ahhh...

What are your weekend plans? We are running out of them this summer...my, my how time flies!

monogramming etiquette - part 3

Today's the last installment of our monogramming series this week, and we're talkin' style. I'm sad to see this series end, but I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have! Now, where were we...

Style - Most people often go with script type when monogramming pieces, however there are several options that most local monogram shops or online retailers offer that can enhance home decor or apparel/accessories based upon the item or style of the piece. Now, as always, it's really important to keep in mind when you're choosing a monogram the style of your home, your personal style, or that of the person you're giving a monogrammed gift to. Personalization is all about keeping things timeless, understated and individualized -

monogramming etiquette - part 2

Yesterday was all about what to steer clear of when you're looking for things to monogram. Now let's keep in mind that there are plenty of places for your initials to go, and here are few that I believe are classic, often understated and perfect personalized additions to your home and closet. Stay tuned for tomorrow's third and final monogram post as we talk monogramming styles.

monogramming etiquette - part 1

Monograms are a great personal addition to any home. They make wedding and house warming gifts personal, and add that sense of extra consideration when you're giving a gift. However, I've noticed over the last few years that monograms have been put on everything from cars, to make-up bags, grocery totes and pens.

I'm all about throwing my monogram on things for our home like on towels or sheets, or perhaps a tote or two, but there's a fine line between what can be monogrammed and what should be monogrammed. Just because it's inanimate, doesn't mean your initials go on it. I'll admit at one point in time, I had a pair of jeans with my monogram on the back pocket- not one of my finer moments people - please forgive me.

Today's post is one of a three-part series about monogramming etiquette - here's what I believe you should steer clear of putting your initials on for the sake of keeping it classy -

crafty canvas

Hannah (my sister) was in town last weekend for a visit and since she's a pretty crafty gal, I thought I'd put her to work - haha. A few weeks ago I was in Cleveland for work visiting Flourish, Inc. and they had a solid orange canvas hanging in their conference room - it was to die for and I couldn't get it out of my head. However, a few weeks ago I decided on kelly green accents for our stark white guest room, so off Hannah and I went to Hobby Lobby (my new favorite hang-out, yes, I'm serious).

And we found the best deal of the weekend - 1/2 off on a 36 x 48 canvas because the plastic was ripped - don't mind if I do...

We laid out our supplies (acrylic paint and sponge brushes) on some moving boxes in the yard...

and we got ourselves to painting...

and of course, Jack was a great supervisor...

ta-da!!!

...and I got it hung,

and pretty centered all on my own - ( insert applause here) - now I'm on the hunt for accent pillows with a great pattern and a rug. Any suggestions?

...and then whoops!

shades of gray

We painted our condo Coventry Gray, but I've been holding off on deciding on paint colors for the new house because I can't seem to seem to make up my mind. But my fave mom-in-law is always looking out for me when it comes to new ideas for design, interior trends, and she keeps me up-to-date on fashion too! I came home late last night from a work dinner to an awesome note from her with some great Benjamin Moore gray paint hues she had seen featured by Elizabeth Mayhew - here are a few that I really love. hmm...Mr. S is out of town this weekend...another weekend project?

manic monday

This weekend got away from me and I failed to queue up posts for early this week. I do have a wonderful project to share with you later this week (hint: an awesome weekend DIY project with my sister!) - so get excited and come back later this week. I hope you have a marvelous Monday!

gotcha day

Tomorrow is the day that we became Jack's parents - hence Gotcha Day - the day we gotcha. We don't know his birthday, so we're going to celebrate the anniversary of the day he joined our family to make three. Sure we've lost a few pair of good shoes, spent late nights cleaning up from a sick pup, walked him round and round the block to use the potty when we were training and spent countless hours listening to Mr. S repeat "siiiiit, siiiit, good boy!", but the last year has been a fantastic adventure with Jack. We never thought being dog owners would bring so much joy and love into our lives, but this year Jack has done just that.
