stylish for sandy

Don't forget to bundle up as you head out today (if you're an East Coaster)! Sandy's rains and winds are still with us...but ladies, let's keep it stylish for our sanity's sake after the craziness of the weather this week. We all deserve to feel pretty amidst the mayhem of this storm!

spanx tight-end tights

My dearest, Ms. Parker, turned me on to SPANX Tight-End Reversible tights a few winters back, and I've not bought another pair since. If you're in the market for opaque, lasting, comfortable, and shaping tights - look no further!

Not only are these tights perfect and just thick enough to keep you warm on the cold winter mornings trudging to the office without sweating to death, I promise there's no tugging on them like a two year old at church. The elastic in mine has held well for the last two winters, and at $36 per pair, I'd call that getting my money's worth, baby! Another plus, there are two color combination options - black/brown or black/charcoal- get them both! Quit wasting your money on the $5 Target finds that rip every time you are on on your way to meet with a client - you can thank me later!

Here are two ways to take just one pair of tights from day to nightAND brown to black!

autumn day with history

On Wednesday, my team at work took some time away from the office to spend the autumn day with history at the Antietam Battlefield and in historic Sheperdstown, WV. Here are few snapshots of from the day that I couldn't help but share because it really was a perfect day all around.

two dogs

Mr. S and I are in a debate of the heart, whether or not to get another dog to join our family. We feel horrible leaving Jack in the house all day, even though I come home for lunch, I know he's terribly lonely and can only imagine how bored he gets. The girl who we got Jack from let us know her dogs had another litter on October 11th, and there's another boy available for a good home.

I realize it's more work to add another pup to the family, but my biggest concern is for Jack. How will he handle another dog joining us for good? He loves to play when other dogs come for a visit, but when this dog doesn't leave I'm worried how he'll react. I don't want to upset the great dynamic we have with him going, but also don't want him to continue to be alone every day.

Help! Do you have two dogs? How do they interact? Was it a difficult transition to bring another into your home once you had one dog? Any advice and help is MUCH appreciated!!!

wise words for wednesday

Today I'm off on a team build with my team at work to Antietam Battlefield, and I felt like this quote spoke to me on not only a personal level, but also as it relates to the Civil War and all the history that the battlefield holds. I can't wait to share images with you from the trip today!

affordable home decor

I found this on Pinterest last night, and knew I'd be doing you all a disservice by not sharing it with you.  I always find myself going to the same sites over and over again to shop online, and often disappointed  but this is an awesome visual from Roost Home to keep on hand to reference when you're on the hunt for affordable home decor.  Happy shopping!!

the man who dressed america

With Mr. S traveling this week and having to stay home while plumbers ran in and out of my house until well into the evening, I indulged myself with a few documentaries that I've had on my list to watch.

One of them, J. Crew & the Man Who Dressed America, captivated me from both a business and fashion perspective. The 43 minute news feature/documentary was centered around J. Crew CEO, Mikey Drexler, who took the helm of the declining brand in the early 2000s, and has quickly brought it into the ranks of one of America's top brands and competing with high-end stores like Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus. His passion, his vision, attention to every single detail and creativity is infectious. I may be slightly biased because J. Crew is hands down my all-time favorite brand, even before they had their recent facelift may I add, but I promise if you're looking for something intriguing to watch over the weekend - don't miss this one!

Disclaimer: I am in no way responsible if your credit card magically ends up out of your wallet, and there's a pretty package of lovely things from J. Crew on your doorstep next week!  Enjoy!

navy blue bedroom

The rest of our house is light, white and beige walls right now, so I'm thinking of trying to cozy up our bedroom by painting it navy blue. I've been browsing Pinterest for ideas, and came upon an article on Apartment Therapy yesterday about navy bedroom and color ideas. Mr. S is finally loving a "radical" idea I've had about design for the house, so I think we're ready to rock (he's a guy...dark is radical)...now just to decide on a shade of navy....any ideas?!

Here's some of my inspiration -

pretty things

Last night all I could focus on was surfing the net looking at pretty things as I sat waiting  for the emergency plumber to get to our house.  The short story - we're going to have to rip out our front yard due to a more major problem with our plumbing than we first anticipated when we had the flood on Sunday. I hope these pretty things bring you some cheer today!!

flood

Our house was flooded last night...in the midst of my composing a wonderful post for today, the main drain line in our house clogged & flooded, and all hope of a peaceful evening flew out the window with every towel that was water logged and each dump of the wet vac.

I'll be back tomorrow with better tidings and shiny things to share!

martini or trina?

In honor of the 1st anniversary of my blog next week, should I celebrate this weekend with a cake martini or a new Trina Turk dress? Okay, maybe a yummy martini is more reasonable, but I can't wait to share with you what's in store for Monday! Stay tuned my friends...

beach cruiser

After our anniversary dinner on Tuesday night, Mr. S had secretly planted my anniversary present in our kitchen- this beautiful white and mint green beach beach cruiser! It was so clever of him and really very thoughtful since I hadn't mentioned wanting a bike in a while...maybe he does listen? Now all I need is to add a basket, a bell, and I'm ready to cruise the mean (aka meek) streets of our neighborhood. (P.S.- I'll take prettier snapshot of it this weekend and share it with you!)

Here's a small ode to other beautiful beach cruisers -

2 years ago today

2 years ago today, I married my...everything...in a ceremony that made me giddy with excitement dreaming of what was to come in our lives, and I've not stopped smiling like a fool ever since.

Thank you for the never-ending unconditional love, the learning, the silver linings, the laughter, the joy, the adventures and most of all for you, Trey. Happy 2nd Anniversary!

fall updates

I found myself this weekend feeling enthusiastic about making some fall updates to our yard, and adding some Halloween decorations to make the house feel a bit more festive. It didn't hurt that Hobby Lobby was having a 40% off Halloween decorations sale, and that a local nursery had exactly the topiaries I had been on the hunt for to make our front door more appealing. Here are a few pictures I snapped -

A few colorful mums and mulch to make our front bed look more polished.

The corner by the garage was full of overgrown weeds, so I ripped them out and added two baby Alberta Dwarf Spruce trees.

I took this picture of the front after adding some Halloween decorations & realized it was missing something...

So I went on a hunt for boxwood topiaries...(pardon my purse on the porch)

And I added a new door mat too!

On to inside...here are a few of my Hobby Lobby finds

I'd love to see your fall spruce-up's or Halloween decorations!

barbour kind of day

When I woke this morning the temperatures had dropped...a lot. As I headed out the door for brunch, I made sure I grabbed my trusty Barbour Beadnell jacket. It's perfect for misty/rainy cold fall days that never seem to end around this time of year here. All in all, I wouldn't make it through the cold months without my Barbour...What's your winter outerwear staple?

fall in love with ilona jongepier

I saw a few snapshots of Ilona Jongepier's work on Pinterest this summer, and I have been mesmerized by her scene styling, and pouring over her images ever since. With fall upon us, these are just a few of her styled images that, for me, evoke the essence of autumn and make me want to jump right into the scenes.

All of the images below are from IlonaJongepier.com, and I encourage you to visit her website to see even more of her beautifully constructed scenes. I promise you'll want to "fall" into them too!
