and the oscar goes to...

Last night's Oscar show was not all I had hoped for. Seth McFarlane was a less than stellar host, the theme of the night was lost until about mid-way through the show and it went too long. I digress...the red carpet fashion was stellar. Here are some of my favorites from the night. What did you think?

Jessica Chastain for the fashion win!

Her look was purely old Hollywood, and she knocked it out of the park last night! (Her chance of winning in my book may have been boosted by her ginger hair (I love redheads), but she truly carried this look flawlessly.

Best Hair: Anne Hathaway

I really hope my darling, Brad Goreski, wasn't behind this sorry excuse for an Oscar dress - it was a really horrible color on her pale skin, and a terrible cut; but I must say if anyone can pull off a perfect short hair do it's this gal! My poor afro doesn't allow for short cuts like this, but if I could I would totally take this picture in for a snip of the hair.

Best Same Look: Jennifer Anniston

I want Jennifer Anniston to do something with that long "same hair for the last 20 years" look, but this dress totally makes up for the sameness she brought to the table. Red was a daring move, but this cut and the fabric shined like new money on the stage.

Best Dressed Couple: Ben Affleck & Jennifer Garner

Was there even a question of who was the best dressed couple? These two are not only fantastic actors, they are genuine and plain adorable. Both look well put together and perfect together. Love Jen and Ben!

Best Dressed Performer: Adele

No one can top Adele's pipes, her impecable sense of her own style, flawless make-up...oh am I gushing? I love her! She knocks it out of the park every.single.time. BRAVO!!

techno friday - living UP

So Mr. S surprised me last week for Valentine's Day with UP Jawbone bracelets for us! Something tells me that he took a little hint from my post about the UP a few weeks ago...or maybe it was that I kept talking about a bunch of my friends who got UP bracelets?

So after rocking UP for a little over one week, here are my favorite things, and not so favorite things. Overall, I'm still as excited about UP as I was before I got one, and all of the hype around the bracelet has lived up to my expectations. Plus, Mr. S (aka The World's Biggest Skeptic) is now a believer and may be more obsessed than I am!

Living UP

So there's my take...my favorite things about it, and maybe not so much the "judgey" notes from UP - sorry I won't be giving up a glass of wine with dinner every now and then. Do you have an UP? What is your take? Anything you like or dislike? Would you recommend it to your friends?

wise words for wednesday

I had a not so pleasant run-in last night with a gate agent on my way home from Orlando. She was unreasonably rude to everyone. I watched her be less than kind to kids excited to go home with their new Disney gear, and  she was even down right cruel to an elderly gentleman who was slow to find his ticket in his jacket pocket. I couldn't help but reach my limit when she tried to tell me my bags were too big to fit on the plane & made me step out of line to see if they fit in the little measuring cube next to the jet-way door - they were not. So for the United Airlines gate agent at Gate 44 last night...this one's for you!

orlando bound

If you've not noticed from my Instagram recently, I've been hauling around the country on every plane, train and automobile from Sacramento, to Phoenix, to Houston; and now today, I'm Orlando bound for a cool 30-hour stay. Sadly, I won't be visiting the Magic Kingdom this trip, but if I happened to head that way, I might just rock this outfit I stumbled upon on Pinterest.

wise words for wednesday

I don't know about you, but I'm loving The Lumineers lately. They keep popping up on Pandora, and I can't help but sing along when this song comes on. Such sweet and endearing words, and this adorable graphic doesn't hurt to illustrate the sweet sentiment too!

take this shirt - brooks brothers non-iron shirt

Over the weekend my favorite, I mean wear at least once a week favorite, Brooks Brothers white non-iron white shirt ripped at the elbow. I am devastated. But it did get me thinking about just how versatile a crisp white shirt (non-iron preferred) can be. You can take this shirt and wear it from dusk till dawn, casual to business attire - perfect for every occasion!

simple shopping- BirdAria

Here's a new series here on the blog - simple shopping - featuring my latest favorite must-haves.

Valentine's Day is 3 days away folks...yep, if you've not scored a sweet gift for your sweetie, ya better get a move on it. Today's new series, simple shopping features a new vendor I've stumbled upon, BirdAria, and their stellar modern, happy chic (thanks JA!) products.

Founded in May 2012 by Liz Bird, BirdAria brings inspiration through canvases made here in America in brilliant colors, sayings and styles. There are quite a few that would be perfect for any love bird on your shopping list.

Also, if I were to snag one for my house, particularly my dressing room, I'd snag one of the spectacularly modern pieces, Marble Manor in baby blue/yellow.

Do you have a favorite piece from their collection? Do you have a favorite mantra? Coming soon are their custom canvases? You could have your own saying on a canvas for your home! Brilliant!

wise words for wednesday

Last night, I spent some quality time here in Phoenix with my amazing friend, Ms. Sweet. We calculated last night we've known each other 18 years!! She's quite an inspiration to me - Sweet took a leap of faith over 6 months ago, quit her corporate gig and moved from her hometown of Atlanta to Scottsdale to begin working on her dream of being a life and physical health coach.

The theme of our conversation late into the night revolved around our own personal growth, our experiences, relationships and futures. Today's wise words I think ring true how we all should look at life...even if we don't ditch our career of 5 years for a totally new path, but perhaps it means putting more weight on the bar at the gym and pushing yourself just a little farther. These are words I need to start thinking on more.

pack it up - wrap up

I'm bad about closing the loop on things I talk about wanting or shopping for, so here it is folks, I took the plunge and bought a travel lap top backpack...

Yes, it's less than chic, but after sprinting (literally) from gate A24 to A86 in the sprawling Denver Airport to make my connection to Sacramento this bad boy was the best thing that could have happened in my life. For a mere $20 from one of my favorite spots, TJ Maxx, I can say it was the best thing I've done for myself, in terms of bag purchases that is, in a long time.

Now, I can't say I'll carry it every day to the office, I'm still loyal to my Knomo bag, but if you're hopping plane to plane like I am this week, 6 of them before I get home on Friday night, it's a no brainer. Save your shoulders and your back will thank you, even if you look like an overgrown 5th grader!

techno friday - pack it up

I've got to pack it up again and jump a series of flights starting on Sunday morning for work, and not retuning home until Friday.  I'm rethinking my Knomo laptop bag that I use everyday to and from the office. It's sleek, flexible (it expands) and is durable, but it's not great (i.e. painful) for carrying a heavy load to and fro, from plane to plane.

Here are a few bags I've spotted, and think they might work for what I need over the next few weeks of traveling for work. Keep in mind, I'm long past my concerns for fashion. I've got 8 connecting flights over five days next week - it's completely about function here folks.

Do you have a favorite travel laptop bag that you would recommend? I'm open to help and guidance as I search for a new bag.

Switch Laptop Shoulder Bag

I really like that there's an option to use this bag as both a shoulder bag and a backpack depending on your needs. Plus it's not just another black laptop bag.

HEX Bristol Duffle

Sold by the Apple store, this bag is not just a laptop bag, but doubles as a laptop bag for traveling. Bingo - not only could it hold my work stuff, but there goes the additional bag for my shoes, blow dryer, curling iron and straightener. A two-in-one makes life easier.

Thule Crossover Backpack

Also sold by Apple, this traditional backpack is made for durability and all that comes with hauling your gear from city to city. Every nook and cranny in this bad boy is another spot to store everything you need for in-flight productivity.
