wise words for wednesday

Charlie is back in surgery again to repair his leg today. I posted a few months ago about him being struck by a car in front of our house, and he had to have surgery to repair his leg and pelvis, and had been doing wonderfully with physical therapy, regaining full range of motion in his leg.

We noticed recently that he had abruptly stopped using his healed leg all together, so I took him in to see the Physical Therapist yesterday to see if we needed to change up his exercises to help with muscle strength. As soon as I got in the room, she asked if I could leave him so she could take x-rays because he had lost so much muscle mass and range of motion since we saw her last.

I got a call a few hours later from the orthopedic surgeon (yes, they have them for doggies) that they needed to do surgery to remove one of the pins that was backing out of his knee joint causing him pain, which was the reason he wasn't using the leg. There's nothing we could have done differently, it's simply something that can happen as bones heal and puppies grow.

So here we sit, another anxious day of back and forth to the surgical center, and perhaps another 6 weeks of Charlie being kept in his cage 24 hrs per day and more physical therapy. I have nothing but hope, but man we are more than emotionally drained after the last few months. Here's some peace and comfort for you, and for me, today.

beach essentials

In 4 days we leave for the beach for a whole week. I laid out by suitcase this weekend, and have already started packing. And plus, this week while I dream about the beach, I'll be sharing my favorite beach themed things with you - get ready for some fun in the sun!

We've not at an actual vacation in nearly 2 years. Last year we moved during the summer, and I can't count long weekends for weddings or the holidays since they tend to involve more work or travel than actual relaxing. We're both in desperate need of unplugging from life for a while, so don't judge my preemptive packing too harshly please.

Here are few things that have made it into the bag already- the best birthday surprise, the panama hat from Mr. S, is the first thing I threw in the bag. And what is a vacation without an easy pair of shorts with a flowing tunic like this one from Calypso St. Barths, and beautiful pair of Jack Rogers that dress up any beachwear. Plus, this Mossimo maxi dress Hannah got me for my birthday was a must-have for dinners out. Don't forget the sunscreen too!!

techno tuesday: wemo

I should have posted about this a long, long time ago and let you all in on a little secret. We've found by far, the best thing for our home ever. Mr. S got two of these handy devices for Christmas, and I am sorry I haven't shared sooner.

business casual

I'm in Dallas for the week at a national meeting for my team, and in the midst of all the planning there was a lot of talk about what business casual means to the sexes. There's a fine line when talking about this in any office (insert HR issues), but it's especially important to make clear expectations of what "business casual" means in your office for both men and women.

Stick with me here, because I know that every office is different but these are my 3 standard rules of thumb when it comes to summer business casual dress for us workin' gals. I'm not saying that I'm "right", but they seem to have worked for me in feeling professional and comfortable at the office during the hot summer months.

wise words for wednesday

I've come to realize over the last few years that the people I surround myself with impact everything in my life - duh, right? Well, it took me a while to figure that out what that means to me, not to mention to open myself up to new people, places and experiences. These wise words today from spoke to me on this very topic.

So for today, say "Yes," and examine who/what to say "No" to. Happy Wednesday!!

liebster award nominee

My dear friend Heather from Fiery and Opinionated nominated me for a Libester Award yesterday - THANK YOU! Even though I did my 5 Things About Me yesterday, I thought what the hay - I'm gonna keep sharing with you this week.

11 questions for the newest liebster ladies (from Heather):

 1. if you were a wine, which would you be?
I'd be a magnum bottle of Tisdale.
It's cheap and there's a lot of it - just how I like my wine.

 2. which social media site are you most addicted to?
No doubt about this one - INSTAGRAM!

 3. if you could change one thing about blogging, what would it be?
The witty and beautiful posts I construct in my head would magically appear on the screen...ehh...maybe in 2020 that technology will be available?

 4. what's your idea of a perfect friday night?
Dinner and drinks out with friends & Mr. S - preferably dining outside.

5. i have a private jet and you can use it to go anywhere you want, where are you going?
To South Africa - Mr. S talks non-stop about going back and I'm dying to visit. Plus it's a long flight and I'd like to have your plane to avoid that hot & sticky stop in Senegal that I've heard about.

6. who do you have a girl crush on (celebrity, character, blogger, you name it!)?
Hands-down, Zoey Deschanel. I know we'd be besties if we even just said hi.

7. if i tell you a poop story, are you
a. cracking up, b. disinterested but humoring me, or c. grossed out?
I have a sick sense of humor...totally laughing and then telling you one too.

8. we have a dinner date next week - are you cooking or taking me out?  what's on the menu?
Cooking my favorite and recently perfected, Chicken Marsala.
(Sorry I'm not giving away my secrets on this one!)

9. name a celebrity that drives you completely insane.
Giada De Laurentiis. She whips out a fake Italian accent one minute, and the next is talking normally. STOP that right now. And while you're at it go eat a burger, PUHHLEASE.

10. are you a night or morning person?
Morning - ask Heather - I'm up bright and early, and chipper the moment my feet hit the ground!

11. if you couldn't live where you live today, what city would you move to instead?
Paris - but let me make a disclaimer by saying, at this point in my life I wouldn't move into some dingy 4 floor walk-up with paper-thin walls. It'd have to be a spacious 3 bedroom apartment and I'd have to have an income to never have to cook since the dining options are endless. That's asking too much, right?

Check back on Thursday to see who I'm nominating for the Liebster Award and the questions I am asking nominees!

5 things about me

There was a big trend (maybe there still is) going around the blogsphere where people were spilling the 5 things about them. I thought at the time it might be trite to jump on the band wagon, but here goes...
