wise words for wednesday

Charlie is back in surgery again to repair his leg today. I posted a few months ago about him being struck by a car in front of our house, and he had to have surgery to repair his leg and pelvis, and had been doing wonderfully with physical therapy, regaining full range of motion in his leg.

We noticed recently that he had abruptly stopped using his healed leg all together, so I took him in to see the Physical Therapist yesterday to see if we needed to change up his exercises to help with muscle strength. As soon as I got in the room, she asked if I could leave him so she could take x-rays because he had lost so much muscle mass and range of motion since we saw her last.

I got a call a few hours later from the orthopedic surgeon (yes, they have them for doggies) that they needed to do surgery to remove one of the pins that was backing out of his knee joint causing him pain, which was the reason he wasn't using the leg. There's nothing we could have done differently, it's simply something that can happen as bones heal and puppies grow.

So here we sit, another anxious day of back and forth to the surgical center, and perhaps another 6 weeks of Charlie being kept in his cage 24 hrs per day and more physical therapy. I have nothing but hope, but man we are more than emotionally drained after the last few months. Here's some peace and comfort for you, and for me, today.
